About CathNews Asia

CathNews Asia is a daily news service that brings you the latest news about the Church in Asia.

Our news service is a digest of Catholic news in Asia, offering insight into a vibrant Church. CathNews Asia covers stories about the Church and of interest to the Church including lay activities, social work, protests, statements, profiles, commentaries, interviews and features, told through text, photos and multimedia.

CathNews Asia is a service of UCA News.

UCA News is a news and information service of the Catholic Church in Asia. Its reporting concentrates on people, events, information or commentary from or about the Church in Asia. Its reporting region is coextensive with the reach of the Federation of Asian Bishops Conferences and includes all nations in the countries commonly designated as making up Central, East, South East and South Asia.

UCAN has more than 200 commissioned or casual (”stringers”) writers and reporters. It has 65 full time staff and either offices or informal bureaux in up to 20 Asian countries. Its editorial headquarters are in Bangkok and it is administered from Hong Kong. It is governed by an active Board and managed by a chief executive based in Bangkok.

UCAN’s daily reports from across Asia may be found at www.ucanews.com and its various publications include the daily email news service to be found at www.cathnewsasia.com.

UCAN also offers a range of information services to  Church organisations.

The Board is Chaired by Chainarong Monthienvichienchai and membership is drawn from India, Pakistan, Japan, Indonesia and Hong Kong. It meets regularly to set policy and oversee the management of UCAN’s Executive Director, Fr Michael Kelly sj.
