Hackers appear to have manipulated Google’s search rank system last week so that a search for “Vatican” took users to a site called www.pedofilo.com.
The redirected site provided information on pedophilia and reproduced documents from the Holy See on the matter, the Catholic News Agency reports.
Google technicians have fixed the problem, but it leaves open the question of how the glitch occured in the first place, says the report.
The algorithm, in this case, could have been manipulated to give greater consideration to the pedofilo.com site over all others, a technique called “Google bombing.”
