The Freedom of Expression pressure group Article 19 has expressed concern that the Irish blasphemy legislation is being used by Islamic countries to demand an international “defamation of religion” law. (khmerlover.org)

The submissions on defamation of religions brought by Pakistan on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) before the UN Ad Hoc Committee on the Elaboration of Complementary Standards (Ad Hoc Committee) adopted the exact wording of the provisions of Irish legislation on blasphemous libel contained in that country’s Defamation Act, passed in July 2009.

This clearly shows that the Irish legislation is being used to legitimise the proposals of Pakistan and the OIC to establish defamation of religion as a principle of international law.

The Ad Hoc Committee is mandated to “elaborate, as a matter of priority and necessity, complementary standards in the form of either a convention or additional protocol(s) to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, filling the existing gaps in the Convention, and also providing new normative standards aimed at combating all forms of contemporary racism, including incitement to racial and religious hatred” (Human Rights Council resolution 6/21).

Pakistan and the OIC seek to establish defamation of religions as a new normative standard. The Irish Defamation Act 2009 has also reintroduced the offence of blasphemous libel this year. This represents a dangerous trend towards the standardisation of blasphemous libel internationally.

  • More Atheists must come out to blaspheme all the violent insane religions to drive home the point no law must be allowed to protect religions. Religions are the problem, not the answer.

No single alleged deity has ever answered a single prayer in human history and never will. Jehovah, Allah, Jeebus, Moses, Mohammed, Krishna, Buddah, Ghost Holes and Pinnochio are all works of fiction, the phantasmagoria of stupid unscientific loonies.

No alleged deity and no alleged holy scripture deserves protection. INSTEAD ALL SUCH absurdities must be widely read and exposed to full criticism.

Reading from Jewish, Buddhist, Jain, Shinto, Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Bahai and Scientology texts all reveal corrupt, anti-woman, anti-science and horrific passages UNWORTHY of the word "sacred."

Get real humanity, sentiments for religions are at best over broad.

I ask all my pacific believer friends to know I am not condemning you . I give credit where credit is due. But the time is long past for our silence to reign where action and speaking out to prevent more religious violence and political deadly corruptions from ruling global political situations.

I wish a prayer could make it all better.

Only speaking positive kind messages leaves the perpetrators un-confronted and our planet unreconciled.

No baby boy should be tortured in religious rituals anymore.

Circumcisions of all infants and girls must be eradicated.

No girl or boy should be sold into marriages or kept as sex trade chattels.

The King James Bible has passages where such activities are considered holy protection of "angels."

If there was a "god" this monster does nothing to stop such brutality and genocide from occurring.

It is our duty as rational human beings to blaspheme s/he/it until no dictator or pope or politician can hide their crimes against humanity behind any shroud of "faith." 843-926-1750 Dial An Atheist Larry Carter Center
